What if the public school system were run with the budget of the military?

The United States Department of Education needed a new building to house all of their activities, so they had one built for them since they have the biggest budget in the government system. The building is located in Davis, California, because they needed a place that was, well, boring; like school has a tendency to be at times. The building was modeled after an equilateral triangle because of the significance of teaching math. The “triangle” was built in 32 days at a cost of only about 20 billion dollars. The newly built equilateral triangle has four wings with each dedicated to strengthening the power of education.

Four branches are a part of this organization: discipline, air force, books and the educational frontier. Discipline, books and the air force are on the corners of the triangle, while the education possibilities frontier is in the middle of the building as a symbol to what this department says it stands for: making education available and accessible for everyone. The discipline wing has a huge repertoire of ways to keep children ninth grade and younger from misbehaving. The department tries to discipline high school students in different ways because the heads of this department know that these students are at a rebellious point in life. This means that their discipline does not include corporal punishment because this would not be too effective.

The types of discipline for students ninth grade and younger range from taking away privileges to the using stun guns for cafeteria food fights. In fact, each school has a discipline kit to keep things under control, which includes high-pressure water hoses, stun guns, candy, bandages, locks, handcuffs, pepper spray, first aid kit, radios, defibulators and extra body armor for that extra protection. Parts of this kit are only to be used in real emergencies and sometimes not even that. Each teacher has to be trained and tested in these procedures to get this kit. Only the principal has access to the main equipment. In each classroom a small box contains the abbreviated version: one stun gun, body armor and of course a fire extinguisher.

The air force is used only for the transport of students and teachers across the nation and sometimes across the world either for business or for leisure. This is basically a way to get students more information about life and also to get them more experiences in life. Each school has seventeen Leer jets for this and only this purpose; also each school now contains an airport. Basically, these students go on many field trips and not just to Los Angeles, but also to places like Normandy, Berlin, and Versailles so that the students can understand the ideas that the teachers are talking about more clearly. Along with the planes, twenty helicopters are also present for local teacher and student transportation.

The Department of Books contains everything in the Library of Congress and others sources as well. They have billions of dollars in books contracts to make sure that every book is as up to date as they can be. Each book is customized to the needs of the student population in each part of the school. There are more than 1000 books on the subject of American History alone. The books are given to the students when they finish the school year, as a way for the students to prepare for the next school year during the summer.

This is also the department that ensures that every student has the very best computer that is on the market. This department contributes a great deal of demand for the computers produced in the nation. Every six months, every computer is either upgraded or replaced.

The educational frontier works to promote learning and to keep students from falling through the cracks. If anyone were to get a C or lower, they are brought to the Triangle and grilled to find out at what can be done to give the students a better opportunity to do better in class, whether it is by bribery, mind control, threats or offers of cash. The teachers try every possible tactic to make the students do well; the department is always innovating teaching techniques to keep people wanting to learn. This group offers up rewards to teachers that have a high passing rate, and all students that do not pass (B or higher) are sent to the Triangle to analyze the teaching technique of the particular teacher. The department started their reforms in California because of the terrible reputation it has garnered over the years. A slow progression of taking over schools which includes giving teachers a bigger salary, more books, and a swimming pool in each school made things easier for students. It really was difficult at first, but they reached their goal of having an entire school full of super smart people, then it went to the district. Since the schools are new, the students are rather motivated because of the rewards that are offered later on.

New teachers that enlist in the district start with a measly salary of $400,000 a year, and the good teachers with some experience get an increase to a small sum of $1.1 million dollars. Well, some of the teachers at least can now buy a house in San Francisco.

Teachers are always constantly enlisted to do this job; they never have needed to call a draft because of the great demand for the positions. Basic training for the teachers involves months upon months of teaching them various subjects so well that they know every subject like the back of their hand. The training grounds are in Virginia and not everyone can actually pass the teacher qualification tests. In fact, the teachers can teach at the university level if need be. The teachers are also taught how to use the self-defense weapons that are present within their classrooms.

Every school in the “district” contains the most important tools to teach a student how and what to learn. They are loaded with supplies of books, Kray computers, tons of food and many cases of binder paper.

Wars are not fought anymore; the countries just have massive debates. For example if there is a disagreement with another country, they just debate on the issue until one country gives up the fight. Members of this department go to the schools to find the best debate team to send to other countries. They pick the people with the most stamina and intelligence. Again, they are transported to their battle via a custom designed Leer jet that has all the amenities of Air Force One. In fact, each debate team member gets a backpack loaded with a laptop, palm pilots and more.

The department has its controversies, though including a recent book purchase. The book, “Ways to Make a Prom Good,” was only two hundred pages, but cost 2 million dollars. This controversy almost led to the lower rung administrators being fired for stupidity.

The food in the cafeteria is not bad; they only have sushi, filet mignon and lobsters for the students. The teachers get better food, which includes pies and other home-made food, some costing hundreds of dollars. They teachers have an exercise room so that they can keep in shape to keep up with their training. The students also get an exercise room, but without an instructor.

The annual budget for this organization is usually 379 billion dollars, while the military’s is 54 billion. This only permits the military to have 6 guns, 2 soldiers and 300 rounds of ammunition. What do you think about this world that I have created? Would you like to live in a world like this?

Looking back, the only real worry Ive ever had is having a long friendship. To be honest I am not really looking for a girlfriend,
although it would be nice to have one. I am afraid in the future that I will not have someone on my side helping me out when I need it.

I very rarely have been picked to join teams and work groups, because people want to stick with whom they know and the cliques that
they belong to. I dont belong to any group or clique besides BAM, so I am not picked to join that particular work group. Then, I need to
go through the indignity of being put on a work group by a teacher. Much of the time I do get jealous of the close friendships that I
see throughout the school. When I see boyfriends and girlfriends holding hands, and or kissing, which really hurts because it makes me
ask myself why I dont have a friendship like that.

My parents never encouraged me to make friends, so I have been spoiled rotten because I never had to share because I always dominate
whatever I do. I also did not have contact with peers until the first or second grade. In my two years of kindergarten and First grade,
I was illiterate and could only speak Cantonese, so things were really hard for me, because I went to an elementary school where I was
virtually the only Asian person there and no one could communicate with me, that lead to many misunderstandings with bullies and the
like. My mother taught me never to fight and I followed that to the letter, if I had not, then I would not have been picked on so much
in elementary school.

For me, it does not seem to be as easy making friends, long lasting ones anyway. Sure, I can talk trash with a group of people for a
while, but if I have nothing to say, I go away, to my own secret hiding place within me, where I can wallow in self-pity. I see starts
of long friendships at BAM, but the problem is that I rarely hang out with the members outside of meetings and I know that is not a very
good start. Well, better starts than the previous years anyway. I have put up more shields then the Starship Enterprise. I can talk with
a particular “friend” for the school year, but when they move on, so do I. Those shields keep me from getting hurt, but they also stunt
my growth as a human. So, I really have not confided in anyone besides adults, to some extent and to some extent that is unhealthy. I
understand that I am still young and all, but most people my age already have had love interests, best friends and many other
things.

Looking forward, I still have the same worry that Ive had since I was a young boy when I didnt speak the language of my peers. I have
just about given up trying to make friends in high school, and aim for college, because it is too difficult now and I need to
concentrate on my studies. Life goes on, and the more I dwell on this issue, the more difficult my life will be.

As a registered Democrat, I believe it is time that I made my stance on what I think of George Bush’s administration. His administration is getting me
mad, because it does not seem that he is doing is job. I do not believe that he should have been allowed to the office of president.
Bush seems to want help big business more then the American people. Look at Enron, a big energy provider which is based in Texas, they guys got rich
off of Californians and they were big contributors to W’s campaign. I understand that he does not like California because we basically said, “Screw
You,” in the last presidential election. At the same time, holding a grudge does not help you because California is the sixth biggest economy in the
world and if it goes so does the rest of the nation.

If I wanted a Republican president, I would pick someone like Theodore Roosevelt, who had the guts, ideas and many other things that really made a
difference. He was tough, as opposed to this sucker who supposedly was part of the National Guard but did not show up half of the time. At least TR was
part of the Rough Riders and led a charge up San Juan Hill. I know he was a warmonger, but better than W., him I would fight for, not Bush.
I am afraid that Bush might screw up this nation more then it is. Lets look at the fact that the other president whose offspring became president also
served one term, John Adams and John Quincy Adams. I just want Bush to just sit there and be a figurehead because I want to live in the country that
Clinton made better. I want Bush to destroy some of the monopolies because the multinational conglomerates with tons of power do not really appeal to
me, but I know some of his money come from them. His tax cut does not work because he is assuming that we will have a surplus in two years. I doubt it
because of the way he is leading this nation. Nor do I believe that a national missile defense is necessary because of the declining threat of nations
like Russia and the violation of the Anti Ballistic Missile treaty. This is a nation was founded on the ideals of being for the people by the people,
not a nation for the rich by the poor.

Mr. Bush, take some time to think about the nation you are creating for your two daughters, no matter how old they are. Do we have a case of the
daughters following the father, because it seems both Jenna and Barbara are making irrational decisions as well. Have a good four years in the Oval
Office, Mr. Bush, because those are the only ones you will have. Create a nation where it was made better by you, not worse.

As the BAMboozled class of 2001 graduates and moves on to bigger and better things, I would like to take some time to thank them. Without these members,
BAMboozled would not be the way it is today: the premier teen website that strives to fight stereotypes. Their leaving is difficult, but is made so
bythe imminent departure of our two great facilitators.

Dusty and Gina, thanks for all the hard work and the effort to keep usgoing. There were times when meetings would not work without a little
kickin the
pants from Gina or an idea or two from Dusty. I don’t believe anyonecan replace you two; especially with all the energy and support, you twohave
provided me. Thanks for all the memories: Dusty’s Birthday sing-a-gram,our shindigs at Baker Beach and Crissy Field, our excursion to Pier 39 andmany
others. As you two move on to take care of your child, may your futurebe a bright one. Keep on grooving and don’t be a stranger.

James, without you, BAM would not have survived passed the first year, since you are the most senior member here and most knowledgeable. Sure, whenBAM
started there were a total of three tech people, including you, but asthe days got longer, there was more and more work for you to do. Even thoughthere
was more work, you met the challenge and excelled. The site worksbecause of your hard work and absolute dedication. To you and your filmcareer, may it
be bright and full of pretty girls and successes. BAM isthe start; Hollywood and the world will be your stage. Good luck my friendand thanks for all
the help and remarks that kept me from going loony.

Liz, it truly has been a fun ride this year. We got a chance to knoweach other and you were my first slow dance at my first school dance ever; I
willcherish these memories forever. I like your honestly and your quirkiness.Without you, BAM would not have the energy and charisma that we have
today, nor would we have Big Bum Guy. Thanks for listening to all the stupidcomments that I made over the past year and not slapping me across my face.I
know your brother, but I am glad I got to know you. As you move on withBryan, I offer you, from deep down in my heart, a fond goodbye and good luck.
See you around, and keep writing to Pepsi about getting eye candy on television for you.

Marvin, our resident artist, what would have BAMboozled been likewithout you? We would not have the cool icons and pictures that we have on the
sitetoday, that is what it would have been like. I can still remember at themeetings where you would draw pictures of the BAM members because you were
bored out of your mind. You have your art, but at the same time, you had an infinite wisdom unmatched by anyone in this outfit. I hope your
travelthrough life keeps you happy, healthy and smart. Keep doing what you aredoing and carry that energy over to you kids.

Now to you Graham, my protégé in Environmental Science and in BAM, I’vegotta say one thing and that is, “good luck.” I enjoyed listening to yourwise
comments about various aspects of life and dating. I hope in thefuture, everything goes well for you and your girlfriend, and invite me to your
wedding, if you have one. J By the way, do us all a favor and put yourshoes back on. J/k. Later, and take care of yourself wherever you go. Artem, you
cool, but very smart guy, I hope Lowell has not messed withyour mind too much. I see you walking through the school and it is a comfort totalk to you.
Have fun Mr. Smarty and wherever you go, may your energy andcharisma follow you.

Last but not least, Andrew, the smart and rather energetic politicalguy, who is a really cool person. I hope life treats you well and you keep
yourwits. Hey, finish your damn rap and get it up for crying out loud. Your witand humor made the meetings fun, by the way you sound like an
anti-tobaccolobbyist. Take care and I am sorry for shoving you into a locker a fewmonths back. Good luck in Minnesota or wherever you go.

To the remaining members of BAM, let’s make the class of 2002, the bestyear BAM has ever had or will ever have. To do this, we need to keep themeetings
going strong and the site healthy. My only worry is about thegeneration who will not have met Dusty, Gina, and James, and I am afraidthey might not be
as dedicated to what they are doing. The class of 2000 bought the land, the class of 2001 built the foundation and the class of2002 will build the
house. I hope the new facilitator(s) will have the sameamount of energy and open-mindedness that Dusty and Gina have. Change is necessary but oh so
hard to take.

This debacle with the presidential election has been dragged out way too long; let’s just end it now! Just give the presidency to Bush, because I don’t
think Gore wants to get blamed for problems that may come about. The stock market has been falling like a stone for the past week because of the
uncertainty about this election. In four years, I think that Democrats will be the knights in shining armor coming to save this country from the
destruction caused by the second Bush administration. I know that Bush may not be able to do all the things that he has talked about: higher military
spending, tax cuts, while preserving social security, getting rid of Roe v. Wade, and drilling for oil in Alaska. The sad part is that the Republican
Party has a majority in both houses of Congress. May God have mercy on our souls in the next four years.

One of the worst influences on our youth today is the artist known as Eminem. This person spits out trash that younger kids should not be hearing. After reading some of his lyrics, they made me a little mad that he was able to get away with saying negative things about: his wife, Pamela and Tommy Lee, women, homosexuals, fellow artists, etc. I admit that I have not listened to his music as much as other people, but I do have copies of his songs. Not very surprising from a high school dropout and a person with a tattoo on his chest saying, "Kim: Rot in Pieces." The really sad thing is that he has a little daughter and a loyal wife, who he is planning on divorcing. The fact that his mother is suing him for defamation and he may go to jail for attacking someone with a gun is another reason he should not be getting respect. He did not even cancel his tour when his wife attempted to commit suicide, what a sick person. With violence being so successful in today’s media, Eminem’s popularity is growing right along with the rubbish the American Audience craves. Ultimately, his problems are due to him not having a father figure in his life when he was younger. Go listen to a song from the Temptations or do anything else. In the end, it will be his daughter that will suffer because she had the bad luck to be born to a parent like Eminem.

After watching the commercials for the Yes on proposition 38 campaign, I asked myself, “Will this work?” Reading this initiative, it calls for: a
restriction on the regulation of private schools, at least $4000 in grants to private schools for new enrollees, and private schools not needing to
comply with Uniform Building Code requirements. When I thought about the answer to that question, it was a resounding No! If this measure gets passed,
we do not have a say in what private schools do. Why give vouchers to get pupils out of public schools, when that same money could be used to help
public schools? Improve public education first, and then worry about putting kids in private schools! It was the Yes on 38 campaign commercials that
dissuaded me from supporting this because I really do not think it will work for the benefit of children.

Where is the $4,000 for each pupil that the measure calls for going to come from? Possibly from public school money? How long will the money last? Will
every pupil get that money, even if they come from a wealthy family that can afford private education? I have another idea for the money; why not give
the $4000 to the teachers so that the good ones will stay!

This initiative will benefit private schools and lower the morale of student in public schools. Test scores in the city of San Francisco have improved
recently and some of the best performing students in public schools may jump ship and we will be left with more of a dead and dying public school
system then we have now.

This initiative will hurt our public school children more then it will help, so this November, please do not vote yes on this big lie.

As the summer begins to wind down and we go back to the drudgery of school, I need to ask myself, “What will the new school year hold?” Unlike other
school years, I am not looking forward to going back because I am really afraid of what might happen to my academic career, my under populated social
life, and my life.

I fear that I will fail my major subjects, especially Geometry and Environmental Science. I fear being overwhelmed and not being able to sleep till
late at night; I have never pulled an all-nighter and I do not plan to start. I fear that I will shoot my self in the foot too badly. Fear can
sometimes be a major source of strength. With this strength, I look for hope.

I hope that I will do well in all of my subjects. I hope I will have the guts to join more clubs. I hope I will have skilled as well as capable
teachers. I hope I will be a more capable writer. I hope I do well when I take the SATs and the PSATs. I really hope that I will get enough sleep. With
these hopes, I have the power to dream.

I dream of learning how to drive. I dream of making more friends and possibly finding a girl friend. I dream of being on Shield and Scroll. I dream of
going to my Junior Prom with friends.

Well, it seems that I will not know what will happen until school actually starts, and some of the stuff that I talked about may come true and some may
not. Taking risks is something we all do and it is time that I took some. I will need to live the present, remember the past and think about the future
in order for me to do well.
