The Beast in Me

It was a typical day here in the city! The sun was out, the sky was blue, and people were all OVER the place. Suddenly, there was a bright flash of light, but it faded into darkness. Standing in the middle of Who Knows Where, I heard a faint cry in the distance. A kid? No, it can't be... But even so, I couldn't control my legs, and where they took me was towards the sound. Shit! What if I run into some giant man eating creature? As far as I knew at that time, there was nothing but me in the pitch black space here. Squinting to see where the hell I'm going, I saw it! An exit! In the distance there was a speck of light shining through. THAT was it! THAT'S where I'm headed, and THAT'S where I'll get outta here! Panting, I reached my destination.

As I neared the opening where light shed itself, smoke began to rise behind me. The smoke acted as if it was a pair of hands and lifted me up so I'm off the ground. Grey fog came in and surrounded me, It's cold. It was like torture when the smoke squeezed me. I couldn't breath. I couldn't move.

*b-b-b-beep* *b-b-b-beep* *b-b-b-beep* Holy shit! It's morning ALREADY? Still lifeless, I struggled to get out of bed, and I got up to my feet and went to the bathroom to do my morning duties. Breakfast, which apparently was on the table, was cold from waiting for me to come downstairs. Well, that's what microwaves are for. So, off to school I went! Time passes by when you're not paying attention and listening to music you weren't supposed to bring but brought anyways, as long as you stare at the front of the class and cover your eyes, no one will ever notice. School ends at 3:45 and all of us run out the doors before the teachers find out that you weren't there at dismissal. It should be illegal to let pushovers become teachers, how do they even SURVIVE in this world is what I want to know.

So, I was on the way home when something in a store window display caught my eye. It was a silver brooch with gold setting and a blue semiprecious stone. Next thing I knew, I was at the counter paying for it. God damn. I'm a guy! What am I supposed to do with this? But I got to admit, it was kind of pretty.

When I got back home I was horrified. The house was a mess! Claw marks were everywhere---on the trees, on the wall, the windows shattered, and hey at least the grass is trimmed. I slowly, in terror, walked down the stone path that leads to the door just to find... there was no door. What the hell happened here? Someone, or something, must have torn it down for the obvious display of jacked up hinges. Shit! Well, I know assassinators wouldn't be THIS obvious,,,

Through the door, what I saw was horrifying. Even worse than what you see in rated R films. Yes, the furniture was torn up, the cabinets and tables were broken, the chairs were chewed up, dishes were cracked and thrown all over the place, the fridge was raided literally and dumped at the bottom of the stairway. But do I CARE about all that? I DON'T THINK SO; right in front of me, on the used-to-be white carpet, was the body of my older sister. Torn from limb to limb, blood and flesh was all over the place. UNBELIEIVABLE. How could this HAPPEN?

I slowly managed to bring myself to my senses and looked for the phone. I ended up going into my sister's room to see if she left her cell phone there. Just as I came into the room, I see this...this HUGE creature scouring for more food, I thought I should go hide, but, that would be no use. It saw me. To my surprise, it cautiously came over to me, like somebody might if they saw some unusual piece of clothing. But that wasn't it. Struck by terror, I couldn't bring myself to fight him. Nor would I be able to; hunched over on its hands and knees, it just fit in the room. I wonder how it came in the door...

Some stories don't end happily, but hopefully I live.

To be continued...
