He promised to bring her flowers,
and they'd go off to watch the sunset,
embraced in each other's arms,
but now they received news,
that his plane was shot down,
and his body lost to the raging seas.
She cried so hard,
and for so long
over this empty coffin.
Grasping the letter tightly,
she choked out sobs,
and pleaded to God to bring him back.
She felt so lost without him,
and her life lost all meaning,
and one day decided she'd join him.
They'd be together forever,
if not in this world,
then in the next.
Her family found her there,
lying over the coffin,
with a look of serenity on her face,
a smile on her pale, cold lips,
a letter in her hand.
Her eyes closed so gently,
she looked so peacefully angelic,
that one could have mistaken her
for just a sweet sleeping beauty.
