He Promised Her The World
She was everything to him
for he had nothing
but himself, a girl
and his love.
He promised her the world,
the stars,
and everything between.
She gave herself
And he gave her pink plastic stars.
He said,
“a unique gift
for an extraordinary girl.”
She believed him.
He had to leave,
to seek his fortune in the world.
She begged him not to go.
He took his honor, his love,
and gave her a promise of return.
She could do nothing.
He promised her the world,
and now she sits waiting.
Just waiting.
