bye, bye nightlight
childhood and adolescence
forever gone
and motherly love baked into chocolate chip cookies?
forever missed
from scraped elbows
to broken hearts
valentines that make you blush to your toes
first ear piercings
and losing training wheels
somewhere along the lines
i lost the night light that brightened my darkness
i lost the security blanket that kept me guarded
open arms and closed eyes
feeling my way around
blindness overtakes
and my night-light fades quicker
and i grow old with memories that leave me next to starving
